Acting foolishly? – Good!

Acting foolishly? – Good!

Today is April Fool’s Day – so let’s celebrate the fool in ourselves! That part of us that gets it wrong, that trips us up, that drops the bundle That part of us that laughs when we think it shouldn’t, cries when we don’t want it to, and plays havoc with our well-controlled systems and plans. The part that deliberately looks for the ridiculous and the absurd. The part that instead of maintaining our “I’m grown-up and I’ve got it all together” veneer, sets about poking holes in it whenever it can.

Let’s honour, celebrate and encourage that part today. Let’s thank it for making our lives less serious, less pretentious and less work. For making them more fun, more live-able and more real.

Let’s honour it by deliberately choosing something ridiculous and crazy to do today!

I found this quote on Pinterest, and have it pinned on my wall next to my desk. Unfortunately I don’t know the author, but I love it so much I wanted to share it.

dancing“Learn to love the fool in you, the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.

It alone protects you against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom you also harbour and who would rob you of human aliveness, humility and dignity, but for your fool.”

Happy April Fool’s Day!
